Intel Corp. in Santa Clara has entered the wearable tech market without designing the fashions involved. Instead, the chip maker is providing designers of clothing and accessories with its lightweight Edison chip, that will allow the garments to perform functions that require computing power. Here, we see a “Synapse” dress that lights when the wearer feels threatened, designed by Anouk Wipprecht and using Intel’s new Edison chip. The company also launched a global “Make it Wearable” challenge in 2014, to spur inventors to come up with apparel that stretches the boundaries of wearable tech. A winner will be announced on Nov. 1 in San Francisco.
